Do you hate your job? Are you confused about what you really should be doing professionally? If you answer yes to either one of these questions, don’t feel bad. You’re not alone. In fact, I’ve answered yes to both questions at various points in my career until I figured out my true passion. I’ve performed well in the jobs that I’ve held, but never felt completely fulfilled by the work that I was doing. I’ve dreaded going to work in the morning, but never knew why. And, then one day, I took a personality quiz and figured out why. The test that I took was a True Colors Personality Quiz. The online quiz took 5 minutes to complete. And, once I finished, I instantly learned that my primary personality color was Green which means that I’m a thinker. The other personality colors are Blue, Orange and Gold.

The purpose of this quiz is to uncover your natural strengths and preferences, so that you can find the perfect career that leverages those strengths and preferences. It’s all about finding what you’re naturally best at because we tend to excel and find greater fulfillment with those things that are natural talents as opposed to learned skills. Upon learning my color, the website gave me a brief synopsis of my “Green” personality. It was me, all the way! I was so intrigued that I purchased the three e-books for a cool $19.95 to shed light on why I wasn’t happy in my career and what my perfect career path would be. This honestly was the best $19.95 that I had spent in a long time.

I learned that I needed a career that did not encompass redundancy and repetition. I also learned that I needed to find a solution oriented career because “Green” people are natural problem solvers. I also learned that “Green” people are independent workers and tend to gravitate to leadership positions. So true! Another interesting piece was that I scored an extremely close secondary “Blue” which means that I’m a helper. According to the website, Blue people “can easily motivate and inspire people to make changes in their lives and reach their potential.” My hope is that I accomplish this through my High Powered Professional blog and speaking engagements!

My key takeaway: My career should allow me to solve problems, come up with new ideas, and help people reach their potential. I happen to believe that I’ve found a career that encompasses these very components. But, if this were not the case, I would be able to use this information to evaluate different career options and determine which jobs to pursue. There is actually an e-book that is available that includes hundreds of career choices suited for each personality color which can be very helpful if you’re in the career exploration phase.

I scored very low points for both Orange and Gold. Orange people are doers. They are persuasive motivators and need stimulation, freedom and excitement. They love challenges and thrills and are not afraid of failure. Gold people are planners. They are the reliable organizers who implement other people’s ideas. They like to maintain policies, procedures and schedules. They are task oriented and prefer structure.
