Last Monday morning, I was on my way to the office and two random strangers, within 15 minutes of each other, frustratingly said to me, “I hate Mondays!” The second person asked me, “Don’t you just hate Mondays?!?” I wasn’t in the mood to debate my love for Mondays with a random person on the street, so I smiled and said, “Well, I guess Fridays are better.” He dismissively responded, “Ugh, I should have known! You seem like a cheery girl!” A cheery girl?! LOL! Okay, I guess I’ll cheerfully take that label. I guess I was supposed to say, “Ugh, Monday’s suck!” And, then we could have had a misery fest right on Michigan Avenue. 🙂 Fact is, I made the decision to be just as “cheery” on a Friday as I am on a Monday. Now, as a 9 to 5-er, I can totally appreciate the ability to sleep in on the weekends and leisurely go about your day. But, if you get to Monday and you absolutely dread the thought of it, something needs to change.

If you hate Mondays, you have the power to change whatever it is that you hate about the day. If you hate your job, you can get another one. But first, figure out what you hate about it before you go and get another one. Otherwise, you may end up getting a job that you hate just as much. And then, Mondays will continue to be a day that you hate. If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and hate going to a job every day, then create a plan and take massive action to fire that job. Whatever your issues are with Mondays, you have the power to change it. It may not happen overnight. But, it can and will change if you do something about it. Baby steps will liberate you from whatever you hate about the day.

Refuse to accept that Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays can only be the days that you love. Refuse to accept that you have to hate Mondays for the next 20+ years before retirement. Refuse to believe that life has to be this way. You can absolutely love what you do. You can love what you do so much that your Mondays are just as good as your Fridays. And, even if you don’t currently love what you do, you can happily work towards creating a life where you love what you do on a full time basis. Then, every day of the week will be lovely!

Mondays don’t have to be horrible. And really, it’s not Monday that you hate. It’s your situation that happens to fall on a Monday that you hate. And, since it’s just a situation, you can change it at any time. So, Happy Monday! It’s a great day to have a great day! 

Signed,

The Cheery Girl 🙂
