What do you do when you feel stuck or your path feels unclear?  My simple answer – You do something.  Anything.  Doesn’t matter how big or small.  You just make the decision to get moving.  Sometimes, a goal or dream is so big that it becomes overwhelming when you think about it.  Sometimes, we feel that we need to see the complete path laid out before us in order to get moving.  Sometimes, we feel that our next move has to be our best move – in other words, there’s fear in taking the wrong step.  This is what keeps you stuck.  Instead of overanalyzing and settling into inaction, make the decision to take a step towards your dream or goal – even if it’s a baby step.

One of my favorite quotes is by Martin Luther King, Jr. – “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”  You don’t have to know the full plan.  Instead, let your path unfold, one step at a time. You don’t have to know every step or what everything will look like in the end in order to get moving.  Of course, you want an overall vision for yourself.  And, of course, planning is an essential part of any goal achievement process.  But, you don’t have to know every step that you’re going to take right now in order to achieve that vision.  You just have to be willing to take one step at a time and keep it moving.

Take that one step that you’ve been inspired to take and let that step inspire you to take the next step. And, when the inspiration comes, take the next step after that. And, don’t worry about results.  Sometimes, you take a step and there’s no immediate result or feedback.  You may think to yourself, “Did I do the right thing?” or “Am I wasting my time?” You absolutely did the right thing.  You did something, which is better than nothing.

Success is a journey.  And, you don’t always know where that journey is taking you.  Just keep moving and don’t take score too soon.  You may take a step that appears to take you nowhere.  But, that’s okay.  It’s taking you somewhere.  It’s taking you to your next step.  Take enough inspired steps and your path will become clearer and clearer.  There’s the possibility that you’ll take a misstep or two (or three 🙂 ).  But, if you keep moving, you’ll certainly find your way.  You’ll eventually get to the result that you desire – or you may achieve something different and even bigger than you imagined. 🙂
