Dear High Powered Professional,

I need advice. I’m currently going through the interview process for a position. I completed a phone screen and an in person interview with two senior managers last week. I immediately sent thank you letters to both senior managers after my interview and was invited back for another round of interviews. Yesterday, I completed the additional round of interviews which included individual interviews with five people – two of the interviewers were the same senior managers that I interviewed with during the previous round of interviews. My question is…Do I send thank you letters to all five of whom I met with yesterday, including the senior managers that I sent thank you letters to during the previous round?

Signed,

Mentally Exhausted

Dear Mentally Exhausted,

The interviewing process can be so exhausting! Congratulations on making it through! My recommendation is to send a thank you letter to everyone that you interviewed with yesterday which includes the two senior managers. I know…more exhausting work. It may seem silly to send another letter, but you should be sending thank you letters after each interview. Even if you interview with the same person twice or three times, you will more than likely cover different areas related to your background. Therefore, your letter should touch upon the things that were discussed during each particular interview.

A great thank you letter will thank the interviewer for their time, but also serve as a strategic follow up to the discussion that you had. So, even though you sent both senior managers thank you letters in the past, you should still send additional thank you letters to reiterate your interest in the position and affirm that you are even more confident that the position is a fit after meeting with the entire team. And, of course, you should mention a few things that were discussed during the interview that supports the fact that they should hire you! All of the notes can be similar, but should have distinguishing points that relate to each distinct interview. I would highly recommend not sending the same letter to everyone as interviewers sometimes compare notes.

Sincerely,

High Powered Professional
